Sorry about the lack of blogging in the past few days. I’ve been busy marking essays, which is quite time consuming, so I haven’t really had a chance to do anything else. Never mind; lots of thoughts stored away to come back to in a few days.
In the mean time, there is no doubt what the big tech story of the past few days is – Steve Job announcing to 2000 crazed Apple groupies that the I-Pod is being merged with a dog and bone. Only one problem; you’ll have to wait to wait six months to get one in the States and until 2008 over here. In the mean time though, it might be worth thinking about the Microsoft alternative, at least according to these guys.

Another issue would perhaps be that phones with exactly the same or better capabilities already exist in the market place. Any of the top range N Series Nokias or Sony Walkman phones are exactly what apple claims to be revolutionising: a phone-mp3 player hybrid. Also, the i-phone doesn’t even have 3G capability so will not be able to compete with similar phones when it comes to internet downloads.
That said, punters will still buy them because it’s an apple and looks cooler than an eskimo sitting in an ice bath eating an ice cream. People are just so fickle.
Geeky rant over.
